FAQ

Buying Venezuelan green coffee

Where does Venezuelan green coffee come from?

Venezuelan coffee grows in three regions: the Andes (Táchira, Mérida and Trujillo), the Andean piedmont of Lara and Portuguesa, and the eastern massif of Monagas and Sucre. Andean coffee was historically exported as “Maracaibo” coffee, after the port it shipped from.

What does Venezuelan coffee taste like?

Washed Andean Arabica from Venezuela typically shows bright, citrus-leaning acidity, a light to medium body and notes of cocoa and sweet spice. Roasters use it as an acidity and freshness component in espresso blends and as a base for filter coffee.

How is green coffee priced?

Green coffee is priced on the ICE Futures U.S. Coffee “C” contract (New York), quoted in US cents per pound, plus a differential for origin, grade and quality. We quote FOB Puerto Cabello or CIF your destination port, on a differential or fixed-price basis.

How many bags of green coffee fit in a container?

A 20-foot dry container holds about 400–420 jute bags of 46 kg (18.4–19.3 tonnes net) or 19–20 big bags of 1,000 kg. The final count depends on the loading plan.

What is the minimum order for green coffee?

The minimum order is agreed privately with each buyer, depending on origin, grade and shipment schedule. Specialty micro-lots are available on request.

When is the coffee harvest in Venezuela?

The main Venezuelan harvest runs from October to March. New-crop shipments usually start in the first quarter of the following year.

Is your green coffee EUDR compliant?

Our lots are EUDR-ready: every supplying farm plot is GPS-mapped and checked for deforestation after 31 December 2020, and the geolocation data comes with each lot for your due-diligence statement. Farm names and plot coordinates are disclosed upon contract signing.

Which port do you ship from?

We ship from Puerto Cabello, Venezuela's main container port, FOB or CIF to ports in Europe and the United States.

Can I get samples before buying?

Yes. We send a type sample on request and a pre-shipment sample (PSS) of the actual lot for your approval before loading.

What documents come with each shipment?

Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, INSAI phytosanitary certificate, certificate of origin, lot quality certificate, weight certificate and EUDR geolocation data for EU shipments.

Do you also sell Robusta or specialty coffee?

Yes. Robusta is available in small lots, and specialty micro-lots from selected Venezuelan farms can be sourced on request.
